Business analytics and organisational change

Welcome to the course Business analytics and organisational change, autumn term 2021! On this page you will find important information about how to register for the course, links to the learning platform and course schedule, as well as contact information to the main teacher and our Student Support. You can also read more about the course, the university and student life. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us by using the form below.

How to start

  • 2. Activate your user account and MFA

As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your Umu-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

With your user account you can:

    • register for courses
    • access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
    • submit assignments and verify your study results
    • access your student e-mail

If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

I want to activate my user account and install MFA

Exchange student or tuition fee paying student

If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.

    Help! It´s not working

If you are having problems activating your account or logging in, please contact our Servicedesk. You will find answers to common questions, and can submit enquiries.

  • 3. Course registration

Online self-registration at the Student website
When you have replied to your offer, you must register for the course you have been admitted to, in order to be allowed to follow the course and to get your results recorded during the course. For this course you self-register online at the Student website. Online registration is open between October 26  to November 2, 2021. If you do not register by November 2 at the latest, you risk losing  your place (seat).

To be able to sign into the Student website and self-register online, you need to have activated your Umu-id account. You received your login information when you were admitted to the course/program at Umeå university (after the second admission round).

There is also information about this further down in the welcome letter.

I want to go the Student website.

Are you unable to register for the course during the online registration period? Be sure to notify us beforehand! If you cannot register and have not notified us, you will not be registered and risk losing your place (seat). Please send a message to studentsupport.informatik@umu.se before the last date for registration so that you will be registered for the course and keep your place.

    Learning platform
The communication between students and teachers will mainly take place via Canvas, one of Umeå University's learning and collaboration platforms. Therefore, it is essential that you have access to a computer and internet connection with good transfer speed. In the learning platform, you will have access to the course's activities such as information about course literature, assignments, submissions, lectures and discussion forums.

To be able to login to Canvas you need to have activated your Umu-id account and registered for the course. You can find more information about Canvas and Umu-id on the Student website. Once you have registered for the course and logged in to Canvas with your Umu-id, you will see the course as an optional tab in your work environment. About the course

  • Course information

My name is Johan Sandberg, and I am the course coordinator and one of the teachers you will meet throughout the course. We plan to give the course on-campus with physical meetings. However, given the uncertainty related to the pandemic, there is a risk that we will have to adapt if the situation during the fall does not develop positively. If this would occur, we will update the schedule with a link to an online alternative.

The course introduction will occur at 10:15-12, November 2nd, in room MC413 in the MIT-building. The course involves different learning activities such as lectures, workshops, labs, and “live” cases involving interactions with partner organizations. Active participation in these activities is essential for your learning progress and meeting the expected learning outcomes. Throughout the course, we will use the learning platform Canvas to interact and distribute information.

I am looking forward to meeting you!
