WELCOME TO THE COURSE
Welcome to Algorithms and Systems for Autonomous Vehicles
Have you been admitted to a course or programme, but do not wish to keep your place? Then you should decline your offer by logging in to your account at Universityadmissions.se. In doing so, you free up your place to someone who is on the waiting list.
If you are in need of special support due to disability, you should apply for that in good time before you start your studies. Find more information about support for studying with disabilities.
As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your Umu-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.
With your user account you can:
If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.
Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.
I want to activate my user account and install MFA
If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.
If you are having problems activating your account or logging in, please contact our Servicedesk. You will find answers to common questions, and can submit enquiries.
You have been accepted to the course Algorithms and Systems for Autonomous Vehicles, HT24, but before you can start you have to do a few things you need to be aware of. In this letter you will find out what you have to do, how and when. You can also read a bit more about the course, the university and life as a student. If you don't find the answers you need here, just contact us via the contact form at the end of the page, and we will respond. See you in November!
Once you have accepted your place, you must register for the course. On this course, you must log in and register yourself via Ladok before the course starts. Online registration in the portal is open on the following dates: 2024-10-25 – 2024-11-08. After these dates, contact the institution if you missed registering. However, if you have not registered by November 8th and we have many reserves, you may lose your place on the course.
If you know in advance that you will not be able to register during this period, you must notify us before the last day for registration.
If you suffer from an acute illness or other unforeseen event that prevents you from registering, you must contact us as soon as possible (medical certificate required).
If you have been accepted as a reserve after registration is closed, you must contact the course's study administrator, so that he can register you manually. Notify Catharina Åhgren: catharina.ahgren@umu.se.
In order to register for the course, you must first activate your Umu ID.
2024-11-04
Time: 13:00
Location: Zoom session: https://umu.zoom.us/j/69112244715
The entire course will be conducted remotely on our course platform Canvas.
You log in to Canvas with your activated Umu ID.Remember! In order to start the course, you must first have registered (as above).
We will have a first introductory Zoom session on November 4th 13:00, https://umu.zoom.us/j/69112244715 where we will introduce the course and explain the course structure.
On the course homepage in Canvas you will find the self-study material you need, such as recorded lectures/meetings, reading and laboratory instructions, discussion forums and all other information that will be needed during the course. All communication from us teachers will also take place via the course website. We plan to open the course website no later than one week before the start of the course.
You can find the course website here: https://www.canvas.umu.se/courses/15721
We have video meetings via Zoom and for it to work well you need access to a reasonably modern computer, webcam and headset. And good internet connection, preferably stable wireless or fixed connection via network cable. You create a Zoom account and log in to Zoom using your Umu ID.
An important part of this course is actual programming and training of machine learning models. In order to get reasonable running times for this type of calculations, a modern graphics card is needed. But since we use Google Colab, which is a free cloud solution where we can run our programs on good graphics cards, you don't need to have your own graphics card to be able to take the course. In this course we will use the Python programming language and one of the machine learning frameworks: PyTorch or Keras.
A distance education offers freedom and flexibility, but you also need your own motivation, commitment and study discipline. Be active in Canvas, take initiative, work independently with your own tasks, contribute to good collaboration via our forums, take part in the sources of information and knowledge available in the learning environment and search for related information on the web. You create your own knowledge when you actively participate and work with the course material.
To keep pace with the course, a good tip is to make your own personal study plan. You can start from the weekly course planning, course description and reading instructions that can be found on the course website, where you will find all the course elements included in the course.
Feel free to keep in touch with your course participants and your teachers. Use each other as support and help in your studies, ask questions in Canvas, contact teachers if you have intractable problems and read your e-mail regularly. All the teachers aim to provide a quick response to questions but work during the day on weekdays, so it is during those times that you can expect to receive a response.
