The course consists of theoretical and practical components focused on nutritional and physiological aspects of body composition, anthropometry, energy expenditure, and the utilization of fats and carbohydrates at rest and during physical activity. Additionally, the course covers nutritional and physiological mechanisms of dietary and supplement interventions as well as effects of nutrient the physiological effects of nutrient deficiencies and obesity on health.
Two mandatory physical sessions. One session (two days) involves a nutritional physiology lab and an examination seminar. The other session consists of a written exam. Otherwise, the lectures will mostly be given physically on campus but with a connection via Teams for students who are in another location.
Required Knowledge
Bachelor's degree that includes at least 180 credits or equivalent foreign degree. At least 90 credits are required in either exercise physiology/sports medicine or physiotherapy, or the student can have a degree from the Biomedical Scientist programme with specialisation Clinical Physiology. English 6 must also be completed.
Academic credits
Applicants in some programs at Umeå University have guaranteed admission to this course. The number of places for a single course may therefore be limited.
