The Department of Nursing, Umeå University, is a young department in a young university situated in the biggest town in northern Sweden, a little more than 600 km north of Stockholm.
We now educate 1 800 of the 36 000 students studying at Umeå University. We provide professional programmes in nursing in Umeå, Skellefteå and Örnsköldsvik, specialist programmes for registered nurses, masters programme in nursing and doctoral studies. Since 1993 "Nursing" has been the main subject area in professional nursing programmes in Sweden.
The Department of Nursing is an active department with many ongoing research projects, continuous course reviews and renewals and a large number of international contacts. Student and teacher mobility programmes combined with transcultural research projects offer a global perspective.
