Clinical physiology

Clinical physiology is a medical specialty that uses advanced techniques such as electrocardiography and ultrasound to measure and analyse the body's functions. This discipline is crucial for diagnosing and monitoring diseases, especially of the heart and lungs. Clinical physiologists play a central role in integrating advanced biomedical engineering to improve diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients, which in turn increases the quality of care and patient outcomes.

Clinical physiology is a medical specialisation where we do not perform any treatments. We measure, analyse, assess and diagnose the function or possible dysfunction of the heart, blood vessels and lungs using various functional and imaging examination methods, including exercise testing, ECG and ultrasound.

We teach clinical physiology to students at the Medical Programme, the Biomedical Programme and the Biomedical Analyst Programme.

Our research is clinically oriented and the research currently revolves around the heart, vascular walls and various echocardiographic methods.

Collaboration

We collaborate with the Heart Centre, a regional organisation at Norrland University Hospital.
