Collaborate with the Department of Computing Science

A successful collaboration must be rewarding for all parties. Here, researchers and students can use their knowledge in practice. At the same time, companies and society have the opportunity to strengthen and grow at the same time as the new competence. This creates sustainable growth.

The Department of Computer Science offers high-quality IT and AI education and conducts leading research in areas such as responsible AI, cloud development, data privacy, data security, and machine learning. By collaborating with us, you gain access to the latest findings, knowledge, and expertise while helping us enhance the quality and relevance of our education to meet the demands of the job market. Together, we address current needs and future challenges, benefiting both you and your organization as well as society at large. If you're curious and have questions or ideas, don't hesitate to reach out to our new collaboration coordinator, who will help you connect with our talented students, teachers, and researchers!

Examples of Collaborations

Leverage the Skills of IT and AI Students

Our students are eager to test their knowledge in real-world situations and are happy to take on assignments from you in society, business, and industry, for example, within the framework of thesis projects. We also welcome collaboration on both small and large projects and invite guest lecturers from various industries. Good contacts and collaboration give our students insight into working life, while you get a glimpse of our programs and what today's students are interested in. Feel free to contact Linda Bresäter, collaboration coordinator at the Department of Computer Science, if you want to know more!

Career Day IT – The Region's Largest Meeting Place

Do you want to introduce yourself and your company and meet students from Umeå University's IT-related programs? Participate in Career Day IT, an annual and very popular event where companies and organizations present themselves and their activities, and you have the opportunity to meet promising tech talents directly. Contact our collaboration coordinator if you are interested in learning more or participating!

Co-op 2026 – Helping You Recruit the Right Talent

Co-op is a collaboration model where our sought-after students alternate their studies with work in your company or organization. We are launching in 2026, so this is a brand-new opportunity for you to recruit, get to know, and work with future computer science engineers during their studies. We collaborate with the Research Support and Collaboration Unit at Umeå University. As a Co-op partner, your organization will:

  • Market yourselves and meet students at the annual Co-op Day
  • Recruit one or more students from our Co-op programs for two supervised work periods
  • Contribute with an industry-specific project idea within a project course
Be a client for thesis projects

More information about Co-op for employers can be found here. Feel free to contact the collaboration coordinator at the Department of Computer Science, Linda Bresäter, already now. The interest is high!

Collaborate with Our IT and AI Experts

The development in IT and AI is advancing rapidly. Is your organization facing challenges that require research-based knowledge to solve? Don't hesitate to contact us! The Department of Computer Science has extensive experience in collaborating with business and industry, municipalities, and county councils. For the collaboration to be successful and strengthen both parties, we identify areas together where we can contribute to mutual benefit and development. This can include everything from knowledge exchange and problem-solving to larger research projects.

Thesis Projects

Collaborating with students writing their thesis projects in computer science offers companies a range of benefits and opportunities. By working with students, companies can access new ideas and innovative solutions that can help solve current challenges. You are not only investing in future talents but also in your company's own development and success.
