Umeå University has revised several research funding templates and will soon publish them on Aktum. A new timesheet template for EU projects is currently available, consolidating four previous templates. Simply enter your daily project hours, and the template will automatically calculate person-months and hours worked across various work packages.

Conference grants 2025
Deadline: continuous throughout the year
Are you planning a conference that will be held in Umeå? Then you can apply for funding for it! Umeå municipality, Region Västerbotten and Umeå University annually sets aside funding for conferences.
The grant amount is based on the estimated number of attendees, with a maximum total of SEK 60,000.
National conferences – SEK 200 per person
Nordic conferences – SEK 225 per person
International conferences – SEK 275 per person

Researchers with 7-12 years of experience since completing their PhD can apply for up to € 2 million to establish a research team and continue to develop a success career in Europe. Applications can be made in any field of research.

Scholarship from The Swedish Society for Anthropology and Geography (SSAG) 2025

Are you a master's student, PhD student or a postdoc with a research project that focuses on anthropology, cultural geography or physical geography? Then you can apply for up to SEK 80,000 for field work and related activities to advance the fields of anthropology & geography. Note that you must be a member of SSAG to be eligible to apply.

FORMAS: The future and development of forests and the forest sector in a global context

Researchers with a doctoral degree at a Swedish higher education institution, research institute or government agency with a research mission can apply for up to SEK 12 million for a three- or four-year research project that contributes knowledge on the future and development of Forests, and the forest sector in a global context.

The foundation "Anna och Nils Håkanssons Stiftelse" provides grants of between SEK 50,000 and SEK 200,000 to scientific education and research that promotes Sweden's forestry, and primarily forestry in the inland of Norrland.

Nordforsk: Sustainable health and social care systems for elderly
Deadline: 20 February 2025
NordForsk is planning a funding call to support research that generates knowledge and evidence-based solutions in the area of sustainable health and social care systems for elderly. The intention is to fund approximately 4-5 research projects. The research consortium must include research performing organisations in at least three Nordic countries. The call for proposals will be issued late October 2024, with a deadline February 2025.

MIRAI: Seed Funding from the STINT Grant

Researchers from Umeå University and other Japanese and Swedish MIRAI member universities will now be able to jointly propose a project idea which falls within one of the Global Challenges Team (GCT) areas that has the potential to a longer and more substantial collaboration.

Future Forests is launching a seed money call for subjects related to forest sciences and sustainable forestry development. SSF Future Research Leaders

Every third year
Are you a young researcher aspiring to lead pioneering research in natural sciences, technology, or medicine? Seize the opportunity to join the SSF flagship programme, Future Research Leaders. 16 researchers will receive SEK 15 million each, alongside comprehensive leadership training over five years. To be eligible, you must have completed your doctoral degree between 2018 and 2020, and work full-time at a Swedish university or research institute during the grant period.
