Updated templates for research funding

Umeå University has revised several research funding templates and will soon publish them on Aurora. A new timesheet template for EU projects is currently available, consolidating four previous templates. Simply enter your daily project hours, and the template will automatically calculate person-months and hours worked across various work packages.

2024

Conference grants 2024

Deadline: continuous throughout the year

Are you planning a conference that will be held in Umeå? Then you can apply for funding for it! Umeå municipality, Region Västerbotten and Umeå University annually sets aside funding for conferences.

The grant amount is based on the estimated number of attendees, with a maximum total of SEK 60,000.

National conferences – SEK 200 per person
Nordic conferences – SEK 225 per person
International conferences – SEK 275 per person

November 2024

Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg's Memorial Fund

Deadline: 12 November

This Foundation focuses on the humanities, and has two open calls for 2025. Project grants will be funded for:

  • Research of relevance to forest management and conservation
  • Projects in Youth Psychology/Psychiatry

To apply from Umeå University, you must first submit to the faculty where you are employed by 12 November. Then, the Dean of each faculty decides which projects to submit before the deadline for submission on 1 March 2025.

The Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation

Deadline: 12 November

This Foundation focuses on the social sciences, and has two open calls for 2025. Project grants will be funded for: 

  • Research of relevance to forest management and conservation

Arctic Field Grant (AFG) 2025

Deadline: 13 November 2024

Yearly

The Arctic Field Grant supports fieldwork for students and researchers collecting data in Svalbard and Jan Mayen. Application to the call opens six weeks prior to the deadline.

VINNOVA Driving Urban Transitions

Deadline: 14 November

Actors from academia and research institutes can apply for funding for research and innovation projects for sustainable transformation in cities. Vinnova has no maximum limit in the call, but recommends a grant level of 250,000–300,000 Euros.

Vinnova: Planning Grant for International Proposal 2024

Do you plan to apply for international grants? If so, you can apply for this planning grant to improve your project applications and opportunities for funding. The offer applies to international calls for proposals in any of the following areas; Sustainable industry, Sustainable societies, Sustainable precision health, Sustainable food systems and Sustainable mobility. 

You can submit you application any time during the four application periods, but the earlier the better, since the funding is limited.

IASC Cross-Cutting and Working Group Proposals 2025

Deadline: 6 January 2025

The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) is now accepting proposals IASC funding in 2025. The funding is aimed at encouraging and supporting science-led international programmes by offering opportunities for planning and coordination, and by facilitating communication and access to facilities.

ERC Consolidator Grant 2025

Deadline: 14 January 2025

Researchers with 7-12 years of experience since completing their PhD can apply for up to € 2 million to establish a research team and continue to develop a success career in Europe. Applications can be made in any field of research.

FORMAS: The future and development of forests and the forest sector in a global context

Call opens: 14 November 2024 
Deadline: 30 January 2025

Researchers with a doctoral degree at a Swedish higher education institution, research institute or government agency with a research mission can applu for up to SEK 12 million for a three- or four-year research project that contributes knowledge on the future and development of Forests, and the forest sector in a global context.

Nordforsk: Sustainable health and social care systems for elderly

Deadline: 20 February 2025

NordForsk is planning a funding call to support research that generates knowledge and evidence-based solutions in the area of sustainable health and social care systems for elderly. The intention is to fund approximately 4-5 research projects. The research consortium must include research performing organisations in at least three Nordic countries. The call for proposals will be issued late October 2024, with a deadline February 2025.

Call for funding: UArctic Entrepreneurship Fund 2025

The UArctic Entrepreneurship Fund supports the development of new services or products in the incubator stage that have a direct benefit locally and/or an circumpolar impact. The aim is to help save the Arctic environment and strengthen Arctic communities.

Future Forests: seed money for interdisciplinary forest research, spring 2025

Deadline: call not open yet 

Twice a year

Future Forests is launching a seed money call for subjects related to forest sciences and sustainable forestry development. Researchers at SLU, Skogforsk and Umeå University can apply for up to SEK 100,000 for short-term projects or pilot studies that can form the basis for larger interdisciplinary projects.

Per Olof Edin Research and Travel Grants 2025

Världsinfektionsfonden announces research and travel grants of up to 25,000 SEK for research on global infectious diseases. This grant is directed towards young researchers registered at a Swedish university, at least at the master’s or Ph.D. level.

The application is now open for scholarship funding from The J C Kempe Memorial Scholarship Foundation. As a master's or doctoral student in Västerbotten, Västernorrland or Norrbotten, you can apply.

The Foundation Anna och Nils Håkansson Stiftelse

Yearly

The foundation "Anna och Nils Håkanssons Stiftelse" provides grants of between SEK 50,000 and SEK 200,000 to scientific education and research that promotes Sweden's forestry, and primarily forestry in the inland of Norrland.

Carl Trygger Foundation 2025

The Carl Trygger Foundation for Scientific Research supports research in the natural sciences that is important for Sweden in areas such as physics, chemistry, technology, biology, ecology, geology, as well as forest and agricultural science. Grants have also been awarded to instrument development in these disciplines.

SSF Future Research Leaders

Every third year

Are you a young researcher aspiring to lead pioneering research in natural sciences, technology, or medicine? Seize the opportunity to join the SSF flagship programme, Future Research Leaders. 16 researchers will receive SEK 15 million each, alongside comprehensive leadership training over five years. To be eligible, you must have completed your doctoral degree between 2018 and 2020, and work full-time at a Swedish university or research institute during the grant period.
